if you prefer, the companion Spin office chair or the Waterlilies three-seater bench. All are the same chair, designed by Britain’s Ross Lovegrove for the Italian firm Driade. The only difference is how they meet the ground.
Simplest is the Bluebelle. It’s a two-piece translucent polypropylene shell mounted on slender steel legs. There are a million basic chairs like this, but Lovegrove, with his love of organic, tactile shapes, has managed to make his look utterly distinctive.
It looks delicate, but is flexible and tough. It’s very comfortable, designed to move with the human body, and it is usable indoors and out. It costs about £193, the going rate for any basic chair with a good designer’s name attached. Whereas many look the same as each other, this stands out from the herd.
